A couple of weeks ago we got an email from Grace at Design*Sponge letting us know she wanted feature Liam’s nursery on the site as a Before&After. We love going to her blog for design inspiration and ideas so of course we were honored and said yes. Here is a screenshot of the post.

It is impossible to explain this feeling, but here we are at Hoag Hospital holding and caring for our new son Liam.
Marta started labor at 6AM on Saturday the 19th. We took our first trip to the hospital early the next morning around 3:30AM. After waiting around for an hour they thought she was progressing and admitted her to labor & delivery. Once the on-call doctor was on the floor and the nurses had switched over to day shift, they weighed in with their opinion and sent us back home to deal with the contractions on our own.
24 hours after our first visit we were back and Dr. Clayton, Marta’s OBGYN, was walking the halls and came in for a pep talk. It was time to have Marta’s water broken, get an epideral, and finally sleep after 48 hours of none. We both passed out for a couple hours until family arrived. Marta was measuring at 4cm so I went down to the cafeteria with Marta’s mom and sister to get some breakfast, while we were down there we got a call from Marta saying she was at 9cm and was going to start pushing! Needless to say we raced back up there. One hour of pushing and Liam was out!
Born at 12:20pm on December 21, 2009 // 9lbs. 2oz. // 21″
Marta is a superhero woman. The end.

It’s hard to believe that we are only one month away from having another little person in our family. The last 8 months have flown by. But the last 2 weeks have seemed to last forever! I thought it was a crazy week when I had my car stolen, found out we were pregnant, and signed papers for our first house. But this last week has quickly become a contender.
1. Right now Marta is 36 weeks pregnant and still working.
2. Last weekend, Marta shut Henry’s foot in the car door and broke his toe and he is stuck in a cast & crate for the next four weeks.
3. We have been remodeling our bathroom and have a house without a functioning shower for two weeks
4. We are still operating on one car.
5. My bike has a flat that I have been too busy to fix and really it only takes about 30 minutes to fix, but we have just been too busy for even that.
6. I came down with some sort of flu and have been holed up in bed for the whole weekend.
Ok, so the latter isn’t as crazy, but it has been more frustrating.
Here is our first baby with his injury:

We just got back from our Baby Care Basics class at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach. We had forgot about the class since our previous ones have all been on Thursdays, but this one for some reason was on a Monday instead. We were cooking dinner when Marta realized we had baby class in less than 30 minutes. We walked into the classroom with a minute to spare, a coke in hand, and ready to learn how to swaddle and diaper…

Registration has begun. The baby shower invites are being sent out in the next few days and we thought we should have our registrations ready for all those eager grandparents, family, and friends. It has been a little disappointing with the selection of baby-related merchandise that all seems so cliché, not to mention an overwhelming amount of these items and “must-haves!” So currently we are a little stumped on how to proceed. Any suggestions? And don’t tell us to make everything on our own! This is the 21st century for goodness sakes, who has time for handmade anything
But seriously, any suggestions? We sort of wanted to do a typography-themed room and/or may go with an aviation theme since we do have a series of 3 childish paintings we did awhile back called “bird” “plane” and “hot air balloon”. I can’t find a photo of them right now, but I did just find some awesome illustrations by Paul Thurlby. I’m excited again…there is hope!
